I am 49. Dual US/Italian citizen, Sicilian roots through my mother. Born in Pennsylvania, raised in the DC area, transplanted to Boston for my 30s, and landed in Delaware about three years ago. I have been quietly planning an escape for most of my adult life. It is not quiet anymore.

The plan, for now, is to simplify. Everything must go. The furniture, the collectibles, the coins and stamps, the scuba gear. All of it finding new homes so I can figure out what mine is.

The Ligurian coast is calling. I do not know exactly what that looks like yet. Maybe a small apartment to rent while I figure it out. Maybe eventually something with a corner and good morning light and espresso and people who are not in a hurry. Maybe something I have not thought of yet. I have stopped needing to know the whole answer before I take the first step.

My mother is Sicilian. I have held dual citizenship for nearly 30 years. I was raised American in every way that word means. This is not running away from that. It is running toward the other half of who I already am.

Remy and Quito are coming too, once the EU pet passport situation gets sorted. They do not know yet. Remy will be fine. Quito will have opinions.
